#1. Does voting require proof of eligibility and identity?
The answer is (A) VOTER IDENTITY AND ELIGIBILITY ARE ALWAYS CONFIRMED REGARDLESS OF HOW INDIVIDUALS CAST THEIR BALLOTS!
A voter who is voting at a polling place for the first time must present identification, then their signatures are matched in subsequent elections. Applicants for absentee and mail ballots must submit proof of identification with their application every time they request an absentee or mail ballot. Everyday Pennsylvanians serving as election workers and poll workers ensure that every voter meets eligibility and identity requirements REGARDLESS of how they cast their ballot.
#2. What methods are used in Pennsylvania to verify the accuracy of elections?
The answer is (E) ALL OF THE ABOVE! All of these checks and balances are used in Pennsylvania to ensure fairness in our elections and verify the accuracy of the results.
#3. How do Pennsylvania election officials verify votes are counted accurately?
The answer is (B) PENNSYLVANIA ELECTION OFFICIALS CONDUCT COMPREHENSIVE TESTS, OFTEN REFERRED TO AS AUDITS, AFTER EVERY ELECTION TO VERIFY THE ACCURACY OF THE VOTE COUNT!
Our elections have many built-in safeguards in place before, during and after a vote is cast to ensure that the final results will be accurate and reflect the voice of Pennsylvanians. Officials carefully follow these legal procedures to ensure exactly one vote per one eligible voter is counted. In Pennsylvania, the final vote count is audited TWICE to confirm accuracy.
#4. Who is permitted to vote in Pennsylvania’s election?
The answer is (B) ONLY U.S. CITIZENS WHO RESIDE IN PENNSYLVANIA AND HAVE REGISTERED TO VOTE, AND ARE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD ON OR BEFORE THE DATE OF THE NEXT ELECTION; AND ELIGIBLE VOTERS IN THE ARMED SERVICES STATIONED OUTSIDE THEIR PRECINCT.
There are strict laws and safeguards in place to ensure only U.S. citizens vote in federal elections. Voters in every state are already required to verify their U.S. citizenship when they register. In Pennsylvania, to be eligible to register to vote, applicants must be a U.S. citizen for at least 30 days, a resident of the state for at least 30 days, and at least 18 years old on or before the date of the next election.
Additionally, voters in the armed services who are stationed abroad or in an area outside of their precinct, and individuals who are registered to vote in Pennsylvania but who reside overseas also are eligible to vote. Pennsylvania takes additional steps by cross-referencing information provided on registration forms with government records. And if their status is not verified, then they are not able to vote.
#5. Which of the following statements is true about counting votes?
The answer is (C) BALLOT-COUNTING MACHINES ARE MORE ACCURATE THAN HAND COUNTING!
Ballot-counting machines called ballot tabulators have higher accuracy rates than hand counts, according to the Bipartisan Policy Center. In addition, ballot tabulators count votes efficiently on election night, providing results in a timely manner.
#6. What are the qualifications for becoming an election worker?
The answer is (A) MUST BE AN ELIGIBLE PENNSYLVANIA VOTER WHO RECEIVES THE REQUIRED TRAINING!
It takes tens of thousands of everyday Pennsylvanians – people from both parties – to make sure our elections run smoothly. Statewide, Pennsylvania utilizes about 45,000 poll workers to staff 9,000 voting locations. Election officials and poll workers in Pennsylvania are our friends, neighbors and coworkers who receive training to become experts on the state’s election process, rules and laws, and they take this responsibility seriously.
