VIDEO: ‘So Many Layers of Protection’

Committee of Seventy, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary, is a nonpartisan civic leadership organization that advances representative, ethical and effective government in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania through citizen engagement and public policy advocacy.

Among its priorities, says President & CEO Lauren Cristella, is advocating for policies that protect your vote and the integrity of the election process, and offering a variety of programs to inform and engage voters so they can confidently cast their ballot in every primary and general election.

“Voters have every reason to feel confident that their vote will be counted in the upcoming election,” Cristella says. “There are so many systems in place to make sure votes are safe and secure. … There are so many layers of protection.”

In this video, she talks about the tried-and-tested systems that safeguard the electoral process – before, during and after an election. These protections include risk-limiting audits, hand-marked paper ballots, the voting machines themselves, paper trails that ensure accuracy, and enhanced transparency, to name just a few.

Officials carefully follow these legal procedures to ensure exactly one vote per one eligible voter is counted. The bottom line: Pennsylvania’s elections are safe, secure and accurate.

Listen to Lauren in her own words talk about the system of checks and balances that protect your vote and ensure accuracy in the results.
